Newborn care support at Kerala centres
Most of what a postnatal centre does for the baby happens in the first three weeks: getting feeding established, watching weight, handling the nights, and showing you how to do it all yourself by the time you leave.

What centres typically provide
The common offering is round-the-clock nursing support, help establishing breastfeeding, guidance on bathing and handling, and traditional oil massage where the centre practises it. Some centres also monitor the baby's weight through the stay and flag anything that needs a doctor.
Feeding support is the part worth asking about most precisely. 'Breastfeeding support' can mean a trained lactation consultant, or it can mean an experienced nurse who will help when asked. Both are useful; they are not the same thing, and the difference matters most at 2am in week one.
What a centre is not
A postnatal care centre is not a neonatal unit. It does not provide medical treatment for a sick baby, and it is not equipped for a premature or low-birth-weight baby needing clinical monitoring. If your baby needs that, your paediatrician will say so and the answer is a hospital, not a care home.
Vaccination schedules stay with your paediatrician too. Ask the centre whether they can arrange transport for a clinic visit during your stay — many can.

Do centres provide medical care for the baby?
No. Centres provide nursing support and daily care. Anything clinical belongs with your paediatrician or a hospital, and a centre should tell you plainly when something needs one.
Is baby oil massage suitable for every newborn?
Not necessarily, particularly for a premature or low-birth-weight baby. Ask your paediatrician before it starts, and tell the centre what they said.
